Hello, my name is _______ , I am [age] _______ and I live at [address] _______ in [city/town] _______ making me a constituent of [representative/senator] _______. I’m also a member of _______ [organization if you’re a part of one]. I want to thank [“you” or Rep’s name if speaking with aid] for leadership during this pandemic.
In light of the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and the thousands of other victims of police brutality, we are deeply concerned about the state of policing and racial justice in Massachusetts. To work towards justice, I am first calling on you to support HD.5128/SD.2968: An Act relative to saving Black lives and transforming public safety and H.3277: An Act to secure civil rights through the courts of the Commonwealth.
While these bills would be a step in the right direction, they do not go nearly far enough to meet the demands of the Movement for Black Lives. We are committed to listening to and amplifying revolutionary black voices and expect you to do the same. Please study their demands and commit to writing and supporting legislation that will demilitarize, defund, and disband police, end jails, prisons, and immigration centers and instead invest in Black communities in ways that they determine.
Lastly, as climate activists we could not agree more with the Movement for Black Lives, that the fossil fuel industry is an oppressive, racist institution that endangers us all. Climate justice is racial justice and these battles must be fought and won together.
Thank you for your urgent attention to these issues. Feel free to reach back out to me at ____________ [number/email]. I’ll follow up soon.
